Here’s an adorable poem about a newborn baby who needs a name…
Infant Joy
William Blake
‘I have no name;
I am but two days old.’
What shall I call thee?
‘I happy am,
Joy is my name.’
Sweet joy befall thee!
Pretty joy!
Sweet joy, but two days old.
Sweet joy I call thee:
Thou dost smile,
I sing the while;
Sweet joy befall thee!
I told you it was an adorable poem!
I actually think JOY is a very sweet name. It seems to be somewhat overlooked these days, but it’s sweet, simple and very meaningful. Perhaps worth a second look?

Like many of Blake’s *Songs of Innocence*, “Infant Joy” has a corrollary *Song of Experience*. It is called “Infant Sorrow”, also a powerful poem, although perhaps less helpful in the baby naming process!
My mother groaned, my father wept,
Into the dangerous world I leapt;
Helpless, naked, piping loud,
Like a fiend hid in a cloud.
Struggling in my father’s hands,
Striving against my swaddling bands,
Bound and weary, I thought best
To sulk upon my mother’s breast.
I’m glad there are some poetry fans out there reading this! Thanks for sharing another Blake poem. It is powerful…it doesn’t touch on baby naming, but that’s OK.
